Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Icon Performance for?

Athletes of every level, active adults, older adults, youth athletes, people coming out of physical therapy, and teams, clubs and facilities looking for performance consulting. If you want a program built specifically for you, Icon is for you.

What happens at my first visit?

Your first visit starts with a conversation about your goals, training background and health and injury history, followed by an assessment matched to you. From there, we walk through your results and recommend the right program.

What is The Assessment, and do I need one?

The Assessment is our test battery: Unilateral and Bilateral Primal Movement Pattern Assessment, postural stability, flexibility and mobility, force production and absorption, joint range of motion, grip strength, aerobic capacity and muscular endurance, balance and stability, and sports-specific tests in and around strength, speed, power, agility and injury prevention — plus a dedicated battery for post-injury and rehab bridge work. Nearly every program starts with it, because your results are what make your program individualized.

I'm finishing physical therapy. Can I start training?

Yes — that's exactly what the Post-Rehab Bridge program is for. We ask that you have clearance from your physician or physical therapist, and we're happy to coordinate with your medical team so your training lines up with their guidance.

Do you work with people who have medical conditions?

With medical clearance, yes. Jeff's clinical work as an exercise physiologist in cardiac/pulmonary rehab, post-physical therapy and preventive medicine means programs can account for health conditions. Icon does not diagnose or treat medical conditions and will refer you to a medical provider when needed.

What ages do you train in the youth program?

Our youth programs start at age 11. Training is matched to each athlete's age, maturity and experience — contact us about your athlete and we'll let you know whether the program is a good fit.

Is senior fitness safe if I'm new to exercise?

Yes. Programs start with a health history review and functional assessment, then progress gradually. The focus is on strength, balance and mobility for everyday life.

How does online coaching work?

Online coaching is a $200/month membership. Contact Jeff or complete the intake form, then complete a remote fitness assessment and nutrition/medical/fitness history and goal review. Jeff builds your personalized workout plan, customized nutrition and supplement plan, and event-based program design, and invites you to the Everfit app (iOS/Android, free for clients) for exercise demo videos, progress tracking and direct messaging. You check in with Jeff weekly. Online coaching spots are limited.

Do you come to our team, school or facility?

Yes. Our off-campus consulting services and movement screen clinics are delivered on site for teams, clubs, schools and facilities. Contact us to talk about your needs.

Do you offer nutrition guidance?

Yes. Task-oriented nutrition and supplement programs are matched to your goal — performance, recovery, body composition or competition prep — and can be combined with any training program.

How much does it cost?

Pricing depends on the program, frequency and your goals. Contact us and we'll recommend the right option for you.

How do I get started?

All scheduling is done directly with Jeff. Call (205) 516-3061, email iconperformancepro@icloud.com, or use the form on our Contact page.
