The Icon Difference

The Assessment: Data Before Drills

A comprehensive test-and-measurement battery is the engine behind every Icon program. We measure first, so your training is built for you — not for the average athlete.

Why It Matters

No Two Athletes Are Built the Same

Two athletes with the same position, age and goals can need completely different training. One may be limited by mobility, another by strength, another by how well they decelerate. Templates can't see those differences. Testing can.

Jeff's clinical background in cardiac and pulmonary rehab and physical therapy, combined with 40 years of experience across studios, gyms, clubs, corporate wellness centers, high school athletic facilities and hospitals, means the assessment looks at the whole athlete — performance and the risk factors that hold performance back.

The Battery

What We Measure

The Icon test battery. The tests used are selected for each person's age, sport, goals and health history.

How well you perform fundamental movement patterns on one side, the other, and both together.

Postural Stability

How well you hold and control your posture.

Flexibility and Mobility Tests

How freely your muscles and joints let you move.

Force Production and Absorption Tests

How well you generate force — and how well you absorb and control it.

Joint Range of Motion Tests

How far each joint moves, and where motion is limited.

Grip Strength Measurement

A measure of your grip strength.

Aerobic Capacity and Muscular Endurance Tests

Your conditioning base and how long your muscles can keep working.

Balance and Stability Tests

How well you control your body while balancing and moving.
